Description

The ‘Nzuddi are sweets typical of the province of Messina, square or rectangular in shape, slightly flattened, golden in colour. These desserts were traditionally prepared during the feast of the Madonna della Lettera, the patron saint of the city. To commemorate the patronal feast, on June 3rd the ‘nzuddi are dyed white with sugar reproducing many small letters with the text synthesized by white cannellini beans placed on the surface. A different variant of these desserts has also spread to other parts of Sicily, where they are prepared on the occasion of the feast of the dead and All Saints’ Day.

Flour 00, water, sugar, water, lard, almond, whey powder, eggs, orange paste, ammonium bicarbonate, bicarbonate, orange essence.

Curiosity

‘Nzuddi is a typical recipe of Sicilian cuisine, originating from the area of Caltanissetta. Their origin dates back to the medieval period, when the Arabs ruled Sicily and introduced spices such as ginger, cinnamon and pepper to the island, which are still key ingredients of the Nzuddi. Nzuddi are traditionally baked in wood ovens and have a round shape, similar to that of a small disc.

Whisky with chocolate

 

In a whiskey glass, add an ice cube and 2-3 tablespoons of your favorite whiskey. Mix gently, and combine one or two drops of chocolate syrup.

 

Chocolate limoncello

 

In a saucepan, mix 2 cups of milk, 1 cup of cream, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of grated dark chocolate. Put the saucepan on medium heat and stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is heated. Remove from heat and add 1/4 cup limoncello and a grated lemon rind. Mix well and serve hot.
